STORY / GAMEPLAY You are Rygar the Reclaimer, a mighty warrior born with a mystic birthmark and own the power and the skill to use the warrior's shield, destroy the demons, and bring your people back home.
You fight your way through a vicious world swarmed by monsters and grab artifacts whenever available. Your weapon is an armored shield that can be thrown at the monsters and return back to your hand (much like Captain America's shield). If there are too many creatures to destroy, you can stun them for a few seconds by jumping onto them. The artifacts you find will either give you additional points or extra fighting powers. You face opponents like headless zombies, flying griffons and giant rolling worms and you need to clear all levels and bring peace to the land.
The game has a bit of different gameplay compared to the original arcade but it still is a great action game to try, although its low difficulty level and the fact that you'll probably end the game within a couple of hours. The Atari Lynx port is pretty close to the arcade, however, the layout of some rounds is different, and there are only 23 in total.
GRAPHICS / SOUND The game's graphics on the Lynx are nice and the scrolling moves quite fast. Both Rygar and the demons are clearly distinctive, detailed and animated identically to the arcade original. The landscape holds 2-layers scrolling, with beautiful details and some background animation.
The sound is good too, featuring a rhythmic drum beat during gameplay and a music interlude between levels. There are a few sound effects during gameplay but they might get irritating after a few minutes.
